The race to create the hottest smart phone has been going on for quite a while now. Right now, Sony appears to be winning with the unveiling of the Xperia Z Ultra.

There’s no question this is one beautiful device. The metallic frame and tempered glass underscores its sleek, minimalist design. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra showcases a humongous 6.4”, 1080p display screen with the company’s vaunted Triluminos technology, so you know that colors are stunningly vivid. Despite the size, the handset is actually very easy and comfortable to hold and weighs in at just 212 grams.

The Xperia Z Ultra is both dust and water proof. Its 8mp rear camera is equipped with the Sony Exmor RS sensor, which can take beautiful HDR photos underwater. The handset is powered by a wicked 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage capabilities with microSD card support, plus a hulking 3,000mAh battery. Sony has boasted that the Z Ultra has an impressive talk time of 11 hours and a video playback time of 5 hours.

This strong follow-up device to the Ultra is slated to be released worldwide sometime during the third quarter of 2013. Insider reports have pegged the Xperia Z Ultra to hit Asia by July and August and Europe by September. Pricing for the handset is scheduled to be released at a later time.
