Canon is set to release two new cameras that have the ability to super zoom. The first one is the SX500 IS, a relatively new player and prides itself in standing along with the company’s SX40 HS and SX260 HS point and shoot cameras. The other is the SX160 IS which is known as the successor of the SX150. Apart from having a 24 millimeters of wide angle lens, the SX500 IS also has a superb 30x optical zoom (up to 720 mm). The camera is known to allow photography enthusiasts to close in on their subjects and capture it with high quality. It comes packed with a 16.0 megapixel sensor that is paired up with a DIGIC 4 image processor. Having Canon’s Intelligent IS System allows it to capture steady images and record high-definition videos even at full-telephoto zoom. The 3.0-inch LCD screen comes very handy for user to view images and videos with vibrant clarity. One unique feature is the Zoom Framing Assist where zooming-in and framing subjects is made easy and effortless. By simply using the Zoom Framing Button, the camera’s lens quickly zoom’s out, relocate and frames the subject that vanquished during zooming.

  
On the other hand, the SX160 IS comes equipped with 16x optical zoom. Said camera is known for being versatile given that it has an optical zoom range of 28 mm wide up to 448 mm. It also packs a 16.0 megapixel sensor that is also paired up with the powerful DIGIC 4 image processor. Those who are into recording videos would love this since there is a dedicated movie button that starts and stops recording of HD videos. When using such feature, the camera utilizes the full range of optical zoom without sacrificing HD resolution. Its 3.0-inch LCD is pretty helpful when viewing images and videos. What’s really great with it is that it can be powered by AA batteries thus becoming a camera of choice for people who are always on the go. The SX500 IS retails for $329.99 (BHD 125) while the SX160 IS costs about $229.99. (BHD 90)The latter by the way comes in two colors – red and black. Availability of both is slated by September.
