The Dell Streak 7 tablet has become available in the UK direct from Dell online store. This is a Wi-Fi-only version, one that doesn’t come with a 3G sadly. The price is £299 (185BD).
While the price is good, the specs are half-great. The Dell Streak 7 has a 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 16 GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 5 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera.
Then again, consider that the 7-inch touchscreen only has an 800×480 resolution – that’s on par with most smartphones these days, and even lower than high-end devices such as the Motorola Atrix or HTC Sensation.
Last but not least, the Streak 7 runs Android 2.2 Froyo. That’s right, no Honeycomb in sight here. Dell has also added a customized Stage UI on top of Froyo, ensuring that any possible OS updates will take a long time to make it to the tablet because of the need to re-write those Stage elements.
