Google and LG have finally taken the wraps off the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. The smartphone has just been announced, along with details on availability and pricing options.
As expected, Nexus 5 is the result of the partnership between Google and LG, the same team that brought Android enthusiasts the Nexus 4.
“LG is proud to partner with Google again to develop the fastest, most powerful Nexus phone ever. Nexus 5 offers the ultimate functionality in a modern design and is a testament to the level of innovation that can be generated when two great companies come together for a second act,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
LG Nexus 5 will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat onboard, the latest version of Google’s operating system. The fastest Nexus handset to date, the smartphone is also the slimmest in the series at only 8.59mm.
Aside from bringing all the innovations included in Android 4.4 KitKat, Google confirmed that the Nexus 5’s 8-megapixel rear-facing camera features LG Innotek’s powerful optical image stabilizer technology, which was first introduced in the LG G2.
That should translate into longer exposures, less blur, and less noise, as well as unparalleled dim light performance.
The Nexus 5 sports a hyper-vibrant 5-inch full HD (1080p) IPS capacitive touchscreen display and comes equipped with a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26 GHz.
Nexus 5 boasts an expansive screen for an unrivaled visual experience. The lightweight smartphone comes in both 16GB and 32GB versions and is the perfect combination of powerful performance, functionality, and convenience thanks to LG’s proven hardware and Google’s best software and services.
According to the search giant, Nexus 5 will be available for purchase in either black or white, 16GB and 32GB, no contract required, on Google Play starting today in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K., Australia, Korea, and Japan.
Additionally, offline availability in Europe, Central/South Americas, Asia, CIS, and the Middle East will begin in mid-November. It has been priced at $349 (BHD 132) for the 16GB and $399 (BHD 150) for the 32GB model.
