It was only a couple of days back when we saw a leaked screenshot that certified the names of the new Air and Mini and today, Apple announced the slabs complete with Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The new iPad Air is also thinner at 6.1mm as compared to the already thin 7.5mm of its predecessor. But we all know it’s sexy; the other thing Apple included in the iPad Air 2 is a gold variant, which will be available to future owners.
Apple let the new Air retain the 9.7inch screen size, although all of the components are now bonded together to form one solid display. In addition, the new Air will also have an anti-reflective coating that will make it 56% more readable in daylight.
According to Apple, the iPad Air 2 is the “world’s thinnest tablet” considering that it slimmed down to some 18%. However, the juicy news comes in the form of the Touch ID – a first for Apple that a tab was incorporated with the sensor. Just like the iPhones, owners can use their Air 2s to purchase apps, make payments and other online transactions.
Camera wise, the iPad Air 2 will sport an 8megapixel camera with “1.12micron pixels” alongside an f2.4 aperture. The snapper can record 1080p videos plus slow motion while camera apps come in a bag full of tricks, from panoramas to burst mode.
On the inside, the new Air will use the powerful, next generation A8X processor that’ also inside the iPhone 6. It’s 40% faster, said Apple, and the 64-bit chip will likewise boost the device’s graphics up to180 times. Another iPhone 6 transition is the M8 motion coprocessor which will track and translate your movements.
As for its performance, the tab will last for 10 hours and will also have the usual connectivity suspects like WiFi, and the new iOS 8.1 Operating System.
The Apple iPAd Air 2 will be available in the aforementioned gold together with the traditional silver and gray.
Pricing and release for the Gulf market is still unknown but we will keep you updated.
