All notebooks are considered portable/mobile computing products, but like always, there are degrees of comparison, with some laptops being simply much more portable than others.
Lately, ultrabooks have been taking over the market of ultrathin laptops, although some notebooks with Advanced Micro Devices APUs (accelerated processing units) have been making the rounds as well.
Lenovo has now launched a new mobile PC of its own, called ThinkPad X230s and based on the X230 of last year (2012).
Instead of plastic or aluminum, it has a case made of carbon fiber, as odd as it sounds.
The case makes sure the notebook is durable and light at the same time, and assists in the cooling of the hardware a bit as well.
Speaking of hardware, the notebook is powered by an Intel Core i4 central processing unit, a chip that happens to be backed by 8 GB of DDR3 RAM.
8 GB is the maximum capacity. Presumably, the ThinkPad X230 can have less memory and a different CPU as well. It all boils down to the price-performance ratio.
The Price tag is placed at around $1,200 (BHD 454).
It will fall to customers to decide if they find the price appropriate, when the display measures only 12 inches in diagonal and has a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
Sure, the notebook is thin (17.7mm /0.7 inches) and light (1.28 kg / 2.8 pounds), and the hardware is good, but that’s still a high figure.
On that note, storage space is provided by a hard disk drive (HDD) with a capacity of 1 TB. Other components include a VGA output, mini DisplayPort, a pair of USB 3.0 ports, a 720p webcam. And a keyboard with backlighting.
