Until now the majority of messaging apps support GIF integration, and now WhatsApp will follow the same path.
The reports come from @WABetalnfo, a Twitter account that tracks changes to WhatsApp beta updates. According to the account, version 2.16.7.1 of WhatsApp will embed GIFs from links into conversations and auto play them as well.

The update also allows users to save the GIF file as a plain simple image, which could perhaps save space in the user’s phone. In addition to GIF integration, the WhatsApp for iOS v2.16.7.1 beta also includes several improvements and bug fixes.

WhatsApp has not confirmed this move, however the platform, as of late, has been implementing an array of changes and upgrades.
The messaging platform is working on an iOS update that will enable users to use GIFs into a conversation.

Up until now WhatsApp has only allowed static images, whereas other apps, such as Facebook Messenger, have fully supported GIF integration.
